Great attention is devoted to revival of the culture of indigenous population of the Altai Republic - the Altaians. At the same time a sufficient support is given to cultural organizations of the Russians and other peoples living o要 the territory of the Altai Republic .
The Altaian and Russian troupes work at the National Theater. Each Region of the Republic has its own folklore collectives:
- Ust-Kansky Region- ensembles "Edine",
"Kan-Oozy",
- O要gudaisky Region - ensemble "Yrystu",
- Kosh-Agach - "Burler - Tchuya",
- Ust-Koksa -old-believer's ensemble,
- Gorno-Altaisk - ensemble "Sinegorie", "Oi-Oiyn",
- Tchoisky Region - ensemble "Piket",
- Turachaksky Region - ensembles "Yarmarka", "Lik",
- Maiminsky Region - dance ensemble,
- Ulagansky Region - ensemble "The Altai Republic - Bashkur",
- Shebalinsky Region - dance ensemble,
- Tchemalsky Region - ensemble "Russkiye Uzory".
The existing Writers' organization of the Altai Republic counts over 30 members of Writers' Union of the Russian Federation.
One of the most distinguished persons of the Republic is Alexei G.Kalkin - "People's kaichi of the Altai Republic", the performer of the heroic epos "Maadai Kara" and other legends.
As a result of the purposeful work, a deserved young generation performing guttural singing is growing up in the region.
Gorny Altai is the motherland of prominent artists of the present.
G.I.Tchoros-Gurkin (1870-1937), the author of such famous pictures as "Khan Altai", "The Katun Crown", "The Lake of Mountain Spirits" and others should be named first among them.
G.I.Tchoros-Gurkin (1870-1937) was not o要ly an artist of standing reputation, but also a distinguished public and political figure, taking part in formation of the present State system of the Altai Republic.
Gorno-Altaisk Department of International Turkological Academy was established in 1997 . Such prominent scientists, writers, political figures of the Altai Republic as V.I.Tchaptynov, V.O.Adarov, V.I.Tchichinov, S.M.Katashev, Z.S.Kazagacheva, A.A. Tybykov, R.A.Palkina worked in this Department.
The Altai Republic territory possesses a unique historical potential and has dozens of thousands of archeological and ethnographic monuments of history and culture.

 The Republican Spiritual Center of Ministry of Culture of the Altai Republic was established in 2001 by Decree of the Government of the Altai Republic o要 the basis of the Oblast Scientific and Methodical Center of Culture and Educational Work, created in 1962.
The main activity directions of the Center are:
- Support and development of traditional folk arts and folklore of peoples living o要 the territory of the Altai Republic;
- Cultural and leisure-time activity;
- Carrying-out of the Republican cultural and mass measures;
- Folk arts industries and handicrafts, arts and crafts;
- Program provision of development of folk arts and cultural and leisure-time activity;
- Creation of data bank of performers and amateur ensembles and societies, people's and folk collectives, kai and folklore performers, masters of folk arts industries and handicrafts, arts and crafts. The Center is divided into 4 departments: of cultural and leisure-time activity, informational and analytical activity, of folk arts industries and handicrafts, arts and crafts, guttural singing.
The Republican Center of Spiritual Culture is a methodical center, which co-ordinates activities of club institutions of the Republic upon preservation and development of the traditional folk culture and amateur arts. The Center performs organizational and methodic, training, informational work.

 The history of the Republican Museum of Regional Studies named after A.V.Anokhin started in 1918, when Karakorum-Altaian Zemstvo Council with participation of G.I.Tchoros-Gurkin (1870-1937) - a prominent artist, statesman and public figure - purchased archive material, paleontological and archeological collections, a large library from the famous Siberian researchers N.S.Guliayev and S.I.Guliayev.
One of the first heads and organizers of the Museum in the 20-s was A.V.Anokhin (1869-1931) - a famous researcher of culture of the Turkic peoples of South Siberia.
 Over 20 years of his life were devoted to the study of Gorny Altai, he gathered a great amount of material o要 ethnography, folklore, musical and singing art of the Altaian tribes. The Museum's archeological collection characterizes the main stages of ancient history of Gorny Altai. Today about 40 thousand exhibits are stored in the Museum's funds. Paleolith (the Ancient Stone Age) - 300 thousand years B.C. - 15 thousand years B.C. Items of stone industry of the lower paleolith epoch found at the open-type sites (Ulalinka), of the middle paleolith found at the cave-sites (Ust-Kanskaya, Strashnaya), of the upper paleolith found at the open-type sites (Ust-Kuyum, Maima, Biryulya, Kara-Bom, Yustyt, etc.). The Early Bronze Age - 4 thousand years B.C. - 2 thousand years B.C. The materials from the burial mounds and settlements of Afanasyev culture - Ust-Kuyum, Boitygem, Bertsk, Nizhneye (Lower) Sooru, Kara-Koba. |
